Another GIF show, this one organized by Donnie Cervantes included work by Helen Adamidou, Anthony Antonellis, Jeff Baij, Chris Coy, Jasper Elings, Lois Hopwood, Jordan Levine, Guthrie Lonergan, Erik Peterson, QIL, david SZAKALY, slothwave, Kathleen Stevenson and Joshua Caleb Weibley with exhibition design by QIL.
As part of the launch event for Slava Balasanov’s GIFpumper project (a social media-inflected tool for building environments online using animated or static GIF images) Slava invited friends to contribute GIFs to GIFpumper and produce physical objects in response to his platform. This was my GIF and the show included work by Anthony Antonellis, Dora + Maja, Douglas Schatz, Dusty McDowell, Jeremiah Johnson, Joshua Caleb Weibley, Jules Welter, Lindsay Howard, Slava Balasanov and some others.
The Fifth Age of Glass was an exhibition at Et Al Projects’ first location in Harlem organized around various ideas about a contemporary digital aesthetic by the collective Daddy. It included work by Daddy, Andrew Graham, Avery K. Singer, Michael Vahrenwald, Joshua Caleb Weibley and Damon Zucconi.
Solid Surface was a solo show organized by Ben Sisto at PACS Gallery organized around a material I had previously been employed making countertops from. It included collaborations with Rina Goldfield, Austin Martin White and Piotr Shtyk.
Salad Days was a group show at a New Jersey vineyard organized by Narendra John Haines. The show included work by Piotr Shtyk, Austin Martin White, Ye Qin Zhu and I. It was very weird.
FoxyFax was an invitation for artists across the globe to, together, produce an edition using a fax machine in Barcelona. I used my non-smartphone to access my email account during work at the countertop factory I was then employed at to send an email to an online fax service so that I could participate. First, however, I text messaged a friend to confirm that it was the correct time in Barcelona for me to fax them.
Slide Show was an invitation to collaboratively make a slide lecture in a similar fashion as one playing the game “exquisite corpse.” The event was held in City Hall in Philadelphia in connection with Little Berlin, Extra Extra and Fluxspace’s residency there under the name “The Department of Alternative Affairs.” Kelani Nicole of Little Berlin organized the event and I performed the role of a lecturer to present the resulting slide lecture during the residency’s closing event.

New Directions in Drawing was a symposium chaired by Dr. Monique Fouquet including speakers Diyan Achjadi, Lucie Chan, Roman Izdebski, Beth Howe, David MacWilliam, Elizabeth MacKenzie, Ben Reeves, Vjeko Sager, Durwin Talon, Renée Van Halm, and Neil Wedman. It was organized by Kristina Fiedrich and Gardiner Funo O’Kain and a drawing of mine was selected for discussion during the symposium.
“On Anticipating Performance” was my first guest post on Philadelphia’s Theartblog. It was first published on May 6th 2011 but was initially written in response to the texts presented in advance of Elizabeth Orr’s performance “A Perception Feeding” at Bodega Gallery.
